Navy Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- ½ cup butter, softened to room temperature
- ½ cup shortening, room temperature
- 1 ½ cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup whole milk or heavy cream
- 4 ½ cups All-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornstarch
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- sugar for sprinkling on the cookies before baking (optional)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375°.
- Mix butter, shortening and sugar in a large bowl.
- Add eggs, vanilla and milk or heavy cream.
- Mix just enough to combine.
- In a separate bowl mix flour, cornstarch, salt, cinnamon and baking powder and dry whisk them together.

- Add the dry mixture to wet mixture and mix until they are thoroughly blended together.
- Using a large spoon, transfer cookie dough to a lined cookie sheet. The dough may seem too soft for baking, but it isn't.
- Sprinkle granulated sugar over each cookie mound and bake in preheated oven for 8-10 minutes; just until the tops of the cookies look slightly dry.
- Remove from oven and place the sheet on a wire rack to cool 8-10 minutes. Transfer the cookies directly to the wire rack to cool completely.
